5-Hydroxycyclohex-1-ene-1-carbonitrile (500 mg, 4.06 mmol) was dissolved in anhydrous DMF (5.1 mL) and then cooled to 0° C. Imidazole (276 mg, 4.06 mmol) and TBS-Cl (612 mg, 4.06 mmol) were added and the reaction mixture was allowed to stir at 0° C. for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was partitioned between water and DCM. The organic layer was collected and the aqueous layer was again extracted with DCM. The combined organic extracts were washed with brine, dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by MPLC on silica gel (using a gradient elution of 0-100%, EtOAc/hexanes) to afford the title compound.
