The compound of step 1 (3.44 g, 8.97 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (50 ml), potassium carbonate (248 mg, 1.79 mmol) was added and the mixture was stirred for 2 h at room temperature. The mixture was evaporated to dryness, the residue partitioned between EA and 1 N hydrochloric acid and the aqueous phase extracted with EA. The combined organic extracts were dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered and evaporated to dryness to give 2.80 g of the title compound.
