To a solution of tert-butyl 4-(4-cyanophenyl)-5,6-dihydropyridine-1(2H)-carboxylate (332 mg, 1168 μmol) in CH2Cl2 (4.00 mL, 62167 μmol) was added TFA (0.0900 mL, 1168 μmol). The yellow solution was stirred at RT for 3 h. The reaction mixture was dried under reduced pressure providing an off-white crystalline material 4-(1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridin-4-yl)benzonitrile-TFA (305 mg, 87.6%). MS (ESI, pos. ion) m/z: 185.4 (M+1).
