A suspension of 8-chloro-1H-benzo[d][1,3]oxazine-2,4-dione (4.00 g, 20.3 mmol) and 3-bromo-2-methylaniline (5.65 g, 30.4 mmol) in xylene (20 mL) was heated at reflux for 2.5 h. The cooled mixture formed a yellow precipitate. The mixture was diluted with hexanes, and the precipitate was collected by filtration, washed with hexanes and dried to give 2-amino-N-(3-bromo-2-methylphenyl)-3-chlorobenzamide as a yellow solid (6.28 g, 91% yield). Mass spectrum m/z 339, 341 (M+H)+. 1H NMR (400 MHz, chloroform-d) δ 7.68 (d, J=8.1 Hz, 1H), 7.61 (br. s., 1H), 7.52-7.43 (m, 3H), 7.15 (t, J=8.0 Hz, 1H), 6.70 (t, J=7.8 Hz, 1H), 6.12 (br. s., 2H), 2.44 (s, 3H).
