Procedure

To a solution of 4.3 ml of 0.5 M sodium methoxide in methanol was added 75 mg of 4-mercapto-7-phenoxy-isoquinoline-3-carboxylic acid methyl ester and 181 mg of glycine. The mixture was heated to 150° C. for 10 minutes using a CEM Discover microwave reactor (City, State). The resultant solution was cooled, and acidified with 1N HCl solution to produce a yellow precipitate. The precipitate was collected by filtering the solution through a (medium) porous buchner filter funnel, and triturated with methanol to give 68 mg of product; MS (−): m/z 353.02 (M−1).
