To a solution of hydrazine hydrate (80%, 2.22 g, 35.5 mmol) in 1,4-dioxane (20 mL) at 0° C. was added a solution of 1-bromo-4-fluoro-2-(isothiocyanatomethyl)benzene (13, 3.16 g, 12.8 mmol) in 1,4-dioxane (5 mL) The mixture was stirred at RT for 2 h. Ice cold water (100 mL) was added. The precipitated solid was collected by filtration, washed with water, and dried over P2O5 overnight to provide N-(2-bromo-5-fluorobenzyl)hydrazinecarbothioamide (14). MS: m/z, 278 (100%, M+1), 280 (100%), 300 (10%, M+23), 302 (10%).
