In another embodiment, fatty acid esters of palmitoleic acid and oleic acid are reacted with ethene to produce a reaction mixture; and subsequently reacting at least a portion of this reaction mixture (or a derivative thereof) in a condensation reaction; and then conducting a second metathesis reaction, followed by hydrolysis and decarboxylation to produce civetone and 1-Octene (C8H16).
