Procedure

Following a procedure analogous to that for the synthesis of Intermediate 137, biphenyl-3-amine (500 mg, 2.95 mmol) and butyraldehyde (265 μL, 2.95 mmol) were converted to the title compound (600 mg, 83%). 1H NMR (CDCl3) δ 7.65-7.57 (m, 2H), 7.55-7.41 (m, 2H), 7.40-7.32 (m, 1H), 7.31-7.23 (m, 1H), 6.99-6.90 (m, 1H), 6.85 (t, J=2.0 Hz, 1H), 6.64 (ddd, J=8.0, 2.4, 0.9 Hz, 1H), 3.78 (br s, 1H), 3.21 (t, J=7.2 Hz, 2H), 1.75-1.59 (m, 2H), 1.54-1.44 (m, 2H), 1.01 (t, J=7.4 Hz, 3H); MS(ESI+) m/z 226.1 (M+H)+.
