Following a procedure similar to that describe in Example 45(d), but using 185 mg of 1-[(2'-t-butoxycarbonylbiphenyl-4-yl)methyl]-2-butyl-4-(1-hydroxy-1-methylethyl)imidazole-5-carboxamide [prepared as described in step (a) above] and 10 ml of a 4N solution of hydrogen chloride in dioxane, 88 mg of the hydrochloride of the title compound were obtained as an amorphous solid, melting at 130°-138° C. (with softening).
