Following a procedure similar to that described in Example 1(b), 16.47 g of diethyl 1-[(2'-t-butoxycarbonylbiphenyl-4-yl)methyl]-2-propylimidazole-4,5-dicarboxylate [prepared as described in step (a) above] were reduced, using 44.4 ml of a 1.5M solution of diisobutylaluminum hydride in tetrahydrofuran, to afford 10.83 g of the title compound as crystals, melting at 108°-110° C.
