A solution of 4 N HCl in dioxane (0.15 mL, 0.60 mmol) was added dropwise to a 0° C. solution of (S)-tert-butyl 1-(2-methoxyphenyl)-2-oxoazepan-3-yl(methyl)carbamate (52 mg, 0.15 mmol) in dioxane (0.6 mL). The reaction mixture was then stirred at rt for 2 hr. The reaction mixture was concentrated and dried under vacuum to give (S)-1-(2-methoxyphenyl)-3-(methylamino)azepan-2-one hydrochloride (41.5 mg, 0.146 mmol, 98% yield) as a white solid. Anal. Calcd. for C14H20N2O2 m/z 248.3. found: 249.2 (M+H)+.
