Employing the same general procedure as for the preparation of 4- (7,8-dihydro-8,8-dimethyl-5-ethylsulfonylnaphth-2-ylethynyl)benzoic acid (Compound 150), 25 mg (0.07 mmol) of 4-[(7,8-dihydro-8,8-dimethyl-5-ethylthionaphth-3-yl)ethynyl]benzoic acid (Compound 152) was converted to the title compound (white solid, recrystallized from ethyl alcohol) using 95 mg (0.28 mmol) of 50% 3-chloroperoxybenzoic acid.
