To a solution of dimethyl (2S,3S,5S)-5-hydroxy-2-[(4-phenylpiperazin-1-yl)carbonyl]piperidine-1,3-dicarboxylate (0.050 g, 0.00012 mol) in methylene chloride (1.00 mL, 0.0156 mol) was added N,N-carbonyldiimidazole (0.024 g, 0.0001480 mol). The reaction was stirred at rt for 2 h. To the resultant mixture was added L-prolinol (0.01704 mL, 0.0001726 mol) and the reaction was stirred at rt overnight. The mixture was concentrated to dry in vacuo and used directly in next step. MS (ESI): (M+H)+=533.2.
