A mixture of 4-methylimidazole (0.63 g, 7.67 mmol), 1-fluoro-2-(trifluoromethyl)-4-nitrobenzene (1.06 g, 5.1 mmol), and K2CO3 (1.06 g, 7.67 mmol) in acetonitrile (20 mL) was refluxed for 6 hs. The mixture was filtered through Celite and filtrate was evaporated in vacuo and the residue was purified by chromatography on silica gel (PE/EtOAc 1:1) to give 1.13 g product as light green oil (81.8%). 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ: 8.71 (1H, s), 8.52-8.55 (1H, d, J=8.4 Hz), 7.59-7.62 (2H, m), 6.90 (1H, s), 2.32 (3H, s). LCMS: m/z [M+H]+ 272.0660.
