A mixture of N-(6-Amino-2,4-dioxo-3-propyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-pyrimidin-5-yl)-6-chloro-nicotinamide (2.47 g, 7.6 mmol), P2O5 was taken in DMF (20 ml) and heated at 100-102° C. for 30 minute. Reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and cold water (60 ml) was added. Precipitated solid was filtered off to get 8-(6-Chloro-pyridin-3-yl)-1-propyl-3,7-dihydro-purine-2,6-dione as pale yellow solid (1.8 g, 77%).
