A solution of 78.0 mg (0.20 mmol) of the ethoxyethyl ether from Example 22 in 1.0 mL of 6N hydrochloric acid was heated at reflux for 5 minutes. The solvent was removed by evaporation under reduced pressure. The remaining solid hydrochloride salt was recrystallized from ethanol-ethyl acetate to afford crystalline 6-(2,6-dichlorophenyl)-2-hydroxy-8-methyl-8H-pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidin-7-ylideneamine, hydrochloride, mp 255°-260° C.;
