To a solution of 5-tert-butyl-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-amine (1.57 g, 10 mmol) and 2-fluoro-5-(trifluoromethyl)benzoyl chloride (2.27 g, 10 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (45 mL) at 0° C. was added dropwise triethylamine (1.7 mL, 12 mmol) and the reaction was allowed to warm to ambient temperature and stirred for 12 hours. The mixture was then washed with water, brine, dried with MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford 3.2 g of the title compound. MS (DCI/NH3) m/z 348 (M+H)+.
