A solution of 1.8 g (4.6 mmol) of tert-butyl{3-(2-chlorophenyl)-1-[(4-methylpiperidin-1-yl)carbonyl]propyl}carbamate in 4.6 mL (18 mmol) of 4 M HCl in 1,4-dioxane is stirred for 2 h, and then concentrated. The residue is stirred in Et2O overnight, and then filtered and washed with Et2O to provide 0.90 g (60%) of 4-(2-chlorophenyl)-1-(4-methyl piperidin-1-yl)-1-oxobutan-2-amine hydrochloride.
