Procedure

A mixture of 1-(2-naphthalenylsulfonyl)-4-(4-nitrophenyl)-piperazine (7.5 mmol) in THF (150 ml) was hydrogenated at 50° C. with Pd/C 10% (1 g) as a catalyst in the presence of thiophene solution (0.5 ml). After uptake of H2 (3 equiv.), the catalyst was filtered off and the filtrate was evaporated. The residue was crystallized from 2-propanol. The formed precipitate was filtered off, washed with 2-propanol and dried (55° C., vacuum), yielding 2.39 g (87%) of 1-(4-aminophenyl)-4-(2-naphthalenylsulfonyl)-piperazine (interm. 7).
