Procedure

Into the reaction flask was added 6-chloro-12-methoxy-2,4,8,18,22-pentaazatetracyclo[14.3.1.1(3,7).1(9,13)]docosa-1(20),3(22),4,6,9(21),10,12,16,18-nonaene (1.35 g, 3.82 mmol), methylene chloride (20 mL), and 1.0 M of boron tribromide in methylene chloride (19.1 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at rt overnight. To the mixture was added 1.0 M of sodium bicarbonate in water (30 mL). The precipitate formed was collected by vacuum filtration. The cake was washed with water and methylene chloride, and air dried to provide the desired product (1.25 g, 96%). LCMS for C17H15ClN5O (M+H)+: m/z=340.1.
