Procedure

A solution of 6-chloro-9-β-D-ribofuranosylpurine (2.87 g, 0.010 mol) and 3,3-diphenylpropylamine (5.28 g, 0.025 mol, 250 mol %) in absolute ethanol (75 ml) is heated at reflux for six days, during which time the starting material is mostly consumed according to TLC analysis (5/1 CHCl3 /MeOH). The solution is cooled to 5° C. and the resulting first and second crops of white crystals are combined to give N6 -(3,3-diphenylpropyl)adenosine, mp 103°-118° C. (from absolute ethanol).
