A mixture of 1(N-benzyloxycarbonyl-m-fluoroanilinomethyl)-6,7-dihydroxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline hydrochloride (0.3 g), conc. hydrochloric acid (3 ml) and acetic acid (3 ml) was refluxed for 1.5 hours in a stream of nitrogen. The reaction mixture was concentrated and the residue was pulverized with ether to give 1-(m-fluoroanilinomethyl)-6,7-dihydroxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline hydrochloride (0.2 g), powder.
