15 g of 2-bromoacetyl-5-chloropyridine hydrobromide are dissolved in 50 ml of dry dichloromethane, 9.7 g of imidazole are added and the mixture is stirred for 24 hours at room temperature. Evaporation of the solvent in vacuo and subsequent chromatography of the residue over silicagel (dichloromethane/methanol/heptane=7/1/4) yield the compound as a cream coloured solid; m.p.: 122°-129°.
