A solution of trifluoroacetic acid (3 mL) in dichloromethane (1.5 mL) was added to tert-butyl (E)-3-[5-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)-6-methoxypyridin-2-yl]acrylate (490 mg) under ice-cooling, and the reaction solution was stirred at room temperature for one hour. The reaction solution was concentrated under reduced pressure, diluted with chloroform and then concentrated under reduced pressure. Diethyl ether was added to the residue, and the precipitated solid was collected by filtration. The solid was washed with diethyl ether to obtain the title compound as a solid (345 mg).
