Procedure
4-cyanobenzene-1-sulfonyl chloride (600 mg, 3 mmol) was added to a solution of N-benzyl-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)methanamine (example 5-46b, 750 mg, 3.3 mmol) and triethylamine (500 mg, 3.6 mmol) in dichloromethane (15 mL). The reaction was stirred at ambient temperature for 4 hours then concentrated on the rotovap. The crude was purified on silica gel to afford N-benzyl-4-cyano-N-(4-methoxybenzyl)benzene-sulfonamide as a white solid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6): δ, ppm: 3.68 (s, 3H), 4.26 (s, 2H), 4.31 (s, 2H), 6.75 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 2H), 6.97 (d, J=9.2 Hz, 2H), 7.07 (m, 2H), 7.21 (m, 3H), 7.98 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 2H), 8.04 (d, J=8.8 Hz, 2H).
