Benzyl alcohol (35 μL, 0.338 mmol) was dissolved in dichloromethane (3 mL) and cooled to 0° C. Chlorosulfonyl isocyanate (29.4 μL, 0.338 mmol) was added and the mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 2.5 h. Triethylamine (47 μL, 0.34 mmol) followed by a solution of (1R,2S,7R,8S)-5-(7-amino-1,1-dioxo-1,4-dihydro-1λ6-benzo[1,2,4]thiadiazin-3-yl)-3-(4-fluoro-benzyl)-6-hydroxy-3-aza-tricyclo[6.2.1.02,7]undec-5-en-4-one (prepared as described in Example 30, 81.4 mg, 0.169 mmol) in dichloromethane (2 mL) were added at 0° C. and the mixture was stirred at 25° C. for 17 h. The mixture was extracted with water (2×2 mL) and saturated aqueous brine solution (2 mL). The organic layer was concentrated in vacuo and further dried for 16 h under high vacuum to afford the crude product, benzyl [N-{3-[(1R,2S,7R,8S)-3-(4-fluoro-benzyl)-6-hydroxy-4-oxo-3-aza-tricyclo[6.2.1.02,7]undec-5-en-5-yl]-1,1-dioxo-1,4-dihydro-1λ6-benzo[1,2,4]thiadiazin-7-yl}-sulfamoyl]carbamate, which was used in the next step without any further purification. LC-MS (ESI) calcd for C32H30FN5O8S2 695.15, found 696.6 [M+H+].
