To a solution of 3-(5-fluoro-pyridin-2-yl)-5-methyl-isoxazole-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (2.5 g, 10 mmol) in dry THF (34 mL), cooled to 0° C., was added lithiumaluminiumhydride (209 mg, 2.3 mmol) portionwise. After allowing to warm up to room temperature over 1 h, the mixture was cooled to 0° C. and water (0.2 mL) was added carefully followed by aqueous sodium hydroxide (15%, 0.2 mL) and water (0.6 mL). The resulting suspension was stirred for 4 h at ambient temperature and filtered over Hyflo®. The filtrate was then concentrated and purification by chromatography (SiO2, heptane:ethyl acetate=50:50 to 0:100) afforded the title compound (1.47 g, 71%) as a light yellow solid. MS: m/e=209.1 [M+H]+.
