(11S)-11-[(Benzyloxy)methyl]-10,11-dihydro-8H-[1,4]oxazino[4′,3′:1,2]imidazo[4,5-c]quinoline (0.92 g, 2.67 mmol) was dissolved in 25 mL of CH2Cl2 and treated with MCPBA (0.81 g, 57-86% purity). After stirring for 2 hours, the reaction mixture was treated with 25 mL of CH2Cl2 and 25 mL of 5% Na2CO3 solution and the layers were separated. The aqueous portion was extracted with an additional 10 mL of CH2Cl2. The combined organic layers were washed successively with H2O (20 mL) and brine (20 mL). The organic portion was dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to give 0.96 g of (11S)-11-[(benzyloxy)methyl]-10,11-dihydro-8H-[1,4]oxazino[4′,3′:1,2]imidazo[4,5-c]quinoline 5-oxide as a light-brown solid.
