A mixture of 4-[2-Methoxy-1 -(3-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-ethyl]-piperazine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (150 mg, 0.387 mmoles) in neat trifluoroacetic acid (3 mL) was stirred at room temperature for one hour. The mixture was concentrated to dryness and pumped on high vacuum to give 1-[2-Methoxy-1-(3-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-ethyl]-piperazine trifluoroacetate as an oil. The material was used in the next step without further purification.
