Procedure

To the solution of carbon tetrabromide (5.73 g, 17.3 mmol) and diethyl 4-(hydroxymethyl)phenyl phosphate (3.74 g, 14.4 mmol) in 50 ml of methylene chloride was added triphenylphosphine (4.54 g, 17.3 mmol) at 0° C. The resultant mixture was stirred for 2 hours. The compound was purified by flash chromatography using heptane/ethyl acetate (80/20 to 70/30) as eluent in a yield 92%.
