4-nitroimidazole was reacted with methyl-3,3-dimethylacrylate to provide the title compound: 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) 1.74 (s, 6H), 2.81 (s, 2H), 3.57 (s, 3H), 7.57 (d, 1H, J=1.3 Hz), 7.90 (d, 1H, J=1.6 Hz); MS m/z 228.2 (M+1).
