Procedure
To a solution of (100) (4 g, 24.7 mmol) in anhydrous tetrahydrofuran (50 mL) at −20° C. was dropwise added n-butyl lithium (1.6M in hexane, 18.5 mL, 29.6 mmol). The stirred mixture was allowed to warm room temperature over 4 h and then cooled to −20° C. again. To this solution was added slowly a solution of n-butyraldehyde (2.7 mL, 29.6 mmol) in anhydrous tetrahydrofuran (10 mL). The resulting mixture was stirred for 16 h between −20° C. and room temperature. The reaction was quenched with saturated ammonium chloride solution and the mixture extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was separated and dried over Na2SO4. After removing the solvent under reduced pressure, flash column chromatography of the residue on silica gel, eluting with 5% ethyl acetate/hexane provided 5 g (85%) of the title compound as a yellow oil. 1H NMR (CDCl3, 400 MHz): δ 0.96 (t, J=7.2 Hz, 3H), 1.11 (d, J=6.8 Hz, 3H), 1.17 (d, J=6.8 Hz, 3H), 1.42-1.52 (m, 2H), 1.76 (m, 1H), 1.87-1.95 (m, 2H), 2.04 (m, 2H), 2.62 (m, 4H), 2.94 (m, 2H), 4.03 (d, J=5.2 Hz, 1H).
