To a solution of 1.49 g of (3aRS,4RS,7aRS)-7,7-dimethyl-4-(2-methoxyphenyl)-2-t -butyloxycarbonyl-4-perhydroisoindolol in 21 cm3 of dioxane are added 35 cm3 of 7.4 N hydrochloric acid solution in dioxane. The reaction mixture is stirred for 1 hour at room temperature and then concentrated to dryness under reduced pressure (2.7 kPa). 1.47 g of (3aRS,4RS,7aRS)-7,7-dimethyl-4-(2-methoxyphenyl)-4-perhydroisoindolol hydrochloride are obtained in the form of a white foam.
