Procedure

1-{4-[Cyclopentyl(hydroxy)methyl]phenyl}cyclopropanecarbonitrile (600.0 mg, 0.002486 mol) was dissolved in methylene chloride (10 mL, 0.2 mol), cooled to −78° C., and to the solution was added diethylaminosulfur trifluoride (0.328 mL, 0.00249 mol) (DAST). The resulting reaction mixture was warmed to rt and stirred at rt for 18 h. The reaction mixture then was poured into ice-water containing NaHCO3 and the resulting mixture was extracted with CH2Cl2 (3×). The combined organic phase was dried over Na2SO4, and concentrated to afford the product.
