To a suspension of caesium carbonate (1.3 g, 4.0 mmol) in DMF (5.0 ml) was added 2-tert-butoxycarbonylamino-3-fluorobenzoic acid from Example 19A (890 mg, 3.5 mmol) and iodomethane (230 μl, 3.8 mmol). The mixture was stirred for 18 h and evaporated in vacuo. The residue was partitioned between EtOAc and brine and the organic layer was dried and evaporated in vacuo. The residue was purified by flash chromatography on silica (eluant EtOAc;pet. ether 25:75) to give a white solid; yield 680 mg, 72%.
