Procedure
To a chilled (−20° C.) solution of 2-methyl-propane-2-sulfinic acid 1-(6-bromo-pyridin-3-yl)-meth-(E)-ylideneamide (1.25 g, 4.32 mmol) and tetrabutylammonium triphenyldifluorosilicate (2.6 g, 4.82 mmol) in THF (20 mL) was added a solution of trimethyl(trifluoromethyl)silane (1 g, 7.0 mmol) in THF (10 mL) in several portions. After 30 minutes, the mixture was warmed to room temperature. The reaction was monitored by TLC (ethyl acetate-hexanes 2:8). The mixture was diluted with saturated aqueous ammonium chloride (30 mL) and extracted with ethyl acetate (3×25 mL). The combined organic layers were washed with brine (2×20 mL), dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated. The crude residue was purified by silica gel chromatography eluting with a gradient of 0-20% ethyl acetate in hexanes. The material from the column was triturated with ether-hexanes to afford 2-methyl-propane-2-sulfinic acid [1-(6-bromo-pyridin-3-yl)-2,2,2-trifluoro-ethyl]-amide.
