A suspension of 2-{4-[2-(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy]piperidin-1-yl}-1,3-thiazole-5-carboxamide (4 g, 10.8 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (100 mL) was cooled with an ice-acetone bath. Tf2O (2.0 mL, 11.9 mmol) was then added dropwise over about 10 min. The mixture was stirred for 5 min and then the cooling bath was removed. After further stirring at room temperature for 15 min, the mixture was quenched with water and extracted twice with CH2Cl2. The combined CH2Cl2 extracts were washed twice with diluted brine, dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated. The crude material was purified by column chromatography on silica gel (eluting with 40% EtOAc/hexanes) to give the title compound as a pale yellow solid.
