To a solution of 2-(bromomethyl)-1-chloro-4-(2-methoxyethoxy)benzene from the previous step (1 eq.) in dioxane (0.2 M) was added 4-methylmorpholine N-oxide (3 eq.). The reaction mixture was heated at 80° C. The resulting solution was allowed to cool to RT, poured into brine and then extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic extracts were dried over MgSO4, filtered and the filtrate concentrated in vacuo. Purification of the crude product thus obtained by way of flash chromatography (SiO2, Hex→2:1 (v/v) Hex:EtOAc) afforded the title compound as a pale yellow oil.
