To a solution of 5-bromo-3-[1-(ethylsulfonyl)-4-piperidinyl]-1H-indole-7-carboxamide (200 mg, 0.49 mmol) in dioxane (4.5 mL) and H2O (1.5 mL) was added [5-(hydroxymethyl)-2-thienyl]boronic acid (232 mg, 1.47 mmol), potassium carbonate (406 mg, 2.94 mmol) and tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium (0) (57 mg, 0.049 mmol). Reaction was run in the microwave at 150° C. for 20 min. Aqueous work-up with EtOAc/H2O gave 447 mg of 3-[1-(ethylsulfonyl)-4-piperidinyl]-5-[5-(hydroxymethyl)-2-thienyl]-1H-indole-7-carboxamide.
