The product of step (vi) (35.8 g) was dissolved in methanol (400 ml) and treated with 4M hydrogen chloride in dioxane (100 ml). The mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 6 hours and concentrated in vacuo. Dichloromethane (500 ml) was added and concentrated in vacuo, which afforded a foam that was taken onto the next step without further purification. Yield 38 g.
