A mixture of 3-ethynylphenol (3.31 g, 28.0 mmol), 2-bromoacetamide (2.36 g, 17.1 mmol) and K2CO3 (5.53 g, 40.0 mmol) in acetone (50 mL) was stirred at 70° C. for 7 h. The mixture was cooled to rt and filtered and the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by a silica gel column chromatography (PE/EtOAc (V/V)=1:1) to give the title compound as a white solid (2.70 g, 90%).
