Procedure

A mixture of 3-hydroxybenzonitrile (2.38 g, 20.0 mmol), 2-bromoacetamide (3.04 g, 22.0 mmol) and K2CO3 (5.53 g, 40.0 mmol) in acetone (30 mL) was stirred at 75° C. overnight. It was then cooled to rt and filtered and the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by a silica gel column chromatography (PE/EtOAc (V/V)=1:1) to give the title compound as a white solid (1.00 g, 28%).
