To 480 mg (1.41 mmol) 1-[2-(4-hydroxymethyl-phenyl)-ethyl]-4-(thiophen-2-ylmethoxy)-1H-pyridin-2-one (example 2.1a) in 5.0 mL of DCM is added 67 μL (0.70 mmol) phosphorus tribromide at 0° C. After warming to RT, the mixture is stirred 2 h at RT and is diluted with aqueous 5% NaHCO3-solution. The layers are separated and the aqueous phase is washed with DCM. The combined organic phase is washed with water, dried over MgSO4, filtered and the solvent is evaporated to afford the product.
