Procedure

4-(4-Bromo-7-methoxyfuro[2,3-c]pyridin-2-yl)-4-methoxypiperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (1.5 g), dichloromethane (50 ml) and trifluoroacetic acid (5 ml ) were combined and stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. The reaction mixture was then diluted with 1N sodium hydroxide solution (100 ml) and extracted with dichloromethane (3×50 ml). The combined extracts were then dried over magnesium sulphate and evaporated in vacuo to give the title compound (1.2 g) as a pale yellow oil.
