(1S,2RS)-6,7-Dimethoxy-2-ethyl-2-(3-hydroxypropyl)-1-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl )-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolinium chloride [(1S,2R)/(1S,2S), 2:1] was prepared by alkylation with ethyl iodide/potassium carbonate/dimethylformamide followed by quaternization with 3-chloropropanol (see Synthetic Example 1, procedure a).
