A solution of 6 g of 3-(4-chloropheyl)-6-hydroxy-1,2-benzisoxazole, 10.2 g of potassium carbonate, 5.12 g of ethyl 2-bromovalerate and 100 ml of methylethyl ketone is stirred under reflux for 3 hr. The reaction mixture is poured into 1 liter of ice/dil hydrochloric acid and the precipitate is collected and dried. Recrystallization from ether gives ethyl 2-{[3-(4-chlorophenyl)-1,2-benzisoxazol-6-yl]oxy}pentanoate, mp 88° C.
