Procedure

A mixture of 2-sulfamoylthieno[2,3-b]pyridine-7-oxide (0.50 g, 2.2 mmol) and dimethylformamide dimethyl acetal (0.3 g, 2.2 mmol) in acetonitrile (3 ml) was stirred for 24 hours at 25° C. The solvent was evaporated and the residue was treated with water. After filtration and drying, there was obtained 0.57 g, (91%) m.p. 232°-234° C.
