A mixture of 11.4 g of the product of Step B, 120 ml of toluene and 300 mg of p-toluene sulfonic acid was refluxed for 1 hour and was allowed to return to room temperature. The reaction mixture was washed with water, dried and evaporated to dryness to obtain 9.5 g of (1R,cis)2,2-dimethyl-3-(2,2,2-trichloroethoxycarbonylethynyl)-cyclopropane-carboxylic acid which was used as is for the following step.
