10% palladium on carbon (0.22 g) was added to a solution of the product of Step 1 (1.05 g, 3.25 mmol) and ammonium formate (2.05 g, 32.5 mmol) in MeOH/THF mixture (1:1, 125 ml) under N2. The resulting mixture was stirred for 30 min at room temperature, filtered through Celite bed and filtrate evaporated to dryness. The residue was diluted to 50 ml with CH2Cl2, washed with H2O, dried over anhydrous MgSO4, filtered and filtrate evaporated to dryness to give the title product as a heavy oil (0.91 g, 98%), which was used in next step without further purification. 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.86 (d, J=8.9 Hz, 1H), 7.44(m, 3H), 7.31(m, 2H), 7.13 (dd, J=2.5, 8.9 Hz, 1H), 6.61(d, J=2.5 Hz, 1H), 3.78(broad s, 2H), 3.53(s, 3H), 2.67(s, 3H).
