Procedure

To p-dibromobenzene (932 mg, 4.00 mmol, 1.00 equiv) in THF (10 mL) at −78° C. was added nBuLi (2.5 M in hexane, 1.6 mL, 4.0 mmol, 1.0 equiv). The reaction mixture was stirred at −78° C. for 30 min before the addition of nBu3SnCl (1.30 g, 4.00 mmol, 1.00 equiv). After stirring for 1.0 hr at −78° C., the reaction mixture was warmed to 23° C. and the solvent was removed in vacuo. the residue was purified by fractional distillation to afford 1.45 g of the title compound as a colorless oil (81% yield).
